One of the best things about being early to work was the fact that you were the one to make the coffee. This was nothing something that Doctor Robert Chase took lightly. Certain members of their team, who shall remain nameless, don't seem to understand the very subtle art of brewing a cuppa worth drinking. Chase prided himself on this skill and therefore was delighted to see that once again he was the first one into the Diagnostics room, despite the fact it was rather late in the morning.

Not bothering to stop and contemplate where his fellow...fellows might be, or their fearless leader, Chase made his way directly to the coffee pot to work the magic.

As he made the coffee, Chase thought over the previous day. It had been...stressful, to say the least. The usually high demand of a pressing case while House ran as wild and unchecked as ever, doing anything and everything to save the patient. However, yesterday it had all payed off, House had solved the case and they all went home happy.

Yet this was another day, and with it came likely another case. Unless he was lucky and granted a reprieve from this job and allowed to go down to the NICU or some other location to work.

With a sigh, Chase turned away from the coffee maker and pulled out a chair at the table. As he sat Chase pulled out a pen from his pocket and the latest medical crossword puzzle from his bag. Bringing the pen automatically up to his lips to chew on it, his eyes perused the puzzle. He hoped that this would be it until the coffee was done and he would leave to do clinic hours or to the ICU.

Yes, of course Chase loved his job. But sometimes it could be too much, even for him.

Cameron never would have asked Cuddy to replace the carpet if she had known it would create such a dent in House's universe. Upset was one thing, but she hadn't guessed she'd wind up discussing a case in Wilson's office with House pawing through Wilson's desk.

The rest of the team had dismissed this whole power struggle as House being in full jerk-mode. But over a carpet? She had worked with House long enough to know that there had to be a reason behind House's behavior that was more complex than just one of House's moods.

House is possessive of his office. The recent incident with the carpet prooved that, if nothing else. And he's possessive of the things in it. Which is why he's currently rifling through his shelves and the file drawers that Cameron had so neatly organized, scowling.

"The next person who takes a reference from my office is going to...." The threat promised to be entertaining, to anyone overhearing him.
